The 2013 World Baseball Classic was the third edition of the World Baseball Classic. It was held March 2-19 2013, the first to be held after a planned four-year break following the 2009 World Baseball Classic. The Dominican Republic national team won the tournament, defeating Puerto Rico, 3-0, in the finals, to complete the tournament with an unblemished 8-0 record. 2B Robinson Canó was named tournament MVP. For the first time, qualifiers were held, with Brazil and Spain and making their debuts after winning qualifiers. Other stars of the event included Japan's Kenta Maeda, the USA's David Wright, the Dominican's Fernando Rodney and Pedro Strop, the Netherlands' Andrelton Simmons, Cuba's José Abreu, Canada's Michael Saunders, Taiwan's Chien-Ming Wang and South Korean Seung-hwan Oh.
