The 2013 World Baseball Classic was the third edition of the World Baseball Classic. It was held March 2-19 2013, the first to be held after a planned four-year break following the 2009 World Baseball Classic. The Dominican Republic national team won the tournament, defeating Puerto Rico, 3-0, in the finals, to complete the tournament with an unblemished 8-0 record. 2B Robinson Canó was named tournament MVP. For the first time, qualifiers were held, with Brazil and Spain and making their debuts after winning qualifiers. Other stars of the event included Japan's Kenta Maeda, the USA's David Wright, the Dominican's Fernando Rodney and Pedro Strop, the Netherlands' Andrelton Simmons, Cuba's José Abreu, Canada's Michael Saunders, Taiwan's Chien-Ming Wang and South Korean Seung-hwan Oh.

1933 - Joe Hauser of the Minneapolis Millers hits three home runs to give him 65 on the year, setting a new Organized Baseball record. Hauser will finish the year with 69.
1978 - Doe Boyland strikes out in his first at-bat - while sitting on the bench. Down 1-2 in the count, he is pinch-hit for by Rennie Stennett, who takes strike 3.
1991 - Shane Turner and Tommy Shields both play all nine positions for the Rochester Red Wings in their season finale.
1993 - Jim Abbott (pictured), who was born without a right hand, no-hits the Indians as his Yankees win 4-0.
1999 - The Reds hit a National League record nine home runs as Eddie Taubensee, Aaron Boone, Dmitri Young, Jeffrey Hammonds, Greg Vaughn, Pokey Reese, Brian Johnson and Mark Lewis all go deep; Taubensee does it twice.
