Background
In 2002, the 15-member United Nations Security Council finalised a resolution authorising the deployment of a multi-national peacekeeping force in Afghanistan. UNSCR 1386 authorised the establishment of an international force to assist the Interim Administration in the maintenance of security.

The ISAF, with the support of 15 (UK) PSYOPS Group, undertook a range of tasks in Kabul and surrounding areas in support of its mission.

a. Assist the Interim Administration in developing future security structures.

b. Assist the Interim Administration in reconstruction.


c. Identify and arrange training and assistance tasks for future Afghan security forces.
